There’s nothing more intimidating than stark, black lips. Because of its boldness, it can be difficult to figure out how to work a black lip look. It’s easy to fall back to the idea that you need to dress up a bit more and do a bit more with the rest of your makeup to complement black lipstick, but I’m here to tell you that you can pull off black lips for everyday wear! Okay, maybe not everyday, but it’s actually really easy to be casual with such a bold color. In this post, I’ll be giving you tips and tricks to make black lipstick work for a casual day out.

Warm up your skin
Because of goth culture, you might think that black lips only work with really pale skin. Black lips actually look really good if you have a warm, bronzed complexion. In a way, it kind of removes the severity of the black lip. Go for a peachy-pink blush (like the NARS Blush in Gina), and a neutral bronzer (like Benefit Hoola Bronzer).
Keep it casual
You don’t need a high fashion outfit to rock black lips. Pairing black lips with a white tee and jeans is a great option if you want to keep your look simple and comfortable. Think about how you would style, say, bold red lips during the daytime, and apply that style to black lips. It gets easier if you think of it that way. Remember: black goes with everything!
Easy on the eyes
There’s absolutely no need to pack on too much makeup when you want to wear black lipstick. Instead of a smokey eye, go for lash-lengthening mascara or a clean cat eye. This makes the whole look more daytime appropriate.
Pull Your Hair Back
Your black lips are the focal point of your look, so why not show it off by wearing your hair up? A high ponytail can make even the blackest of lips look preppy and approachable.
Be Confident
Chances are you’re probably the only one obsessing over your black lips. If you’re going to be self-conscious about your dark lips the whole time, then what’s the point, right? Just be confident with your look, and the compliments will come pouring in.
And those are my tips for a daytime black lip look!
