I have way too many eye shadow palettes as it is, but that didn’t stop me from acquiring The Zulu Eye Shadow Palette by Juvia’s Place. I was debating on whether to get this or the mini Masquerade Palette (also by Juvia’s Place), and I ultimately decided on The Zulu because, while the Masquerade Palette has a lot of bright, bold, colors, it also has some neutral shades. I only really needed brighter colors, so the choice was easy to make. In this post, I’ll be talking about The Zulu Palette and my experience with it.
The Zulu Palette by Juvia’s Place is a limited edition eye shadow palette that boasts 9 highly pigmented colors. It consists of 6 beautiful matte shades and 3 bright, metallic shimmer shades. Juvia’s Place is a brand that was launched by Chichi Eburu, a Nigerian-born woman who wanted to showcase the beauty and diversity of black culture through her makeup line.
It’s a brand known for its eye shadows, and you can tell they were made with black women and culture in mind as they pop beautifully against deep skin tones. The eye shadows come in a magnetic cardboard case, and it features the image of the Egyptian Queen, Nefertiti.
I love the color selection of this palette. It’s beautiful, and you can tell it was created mindfully. You can create looks by mixing and matching the different shades from just this palette. The formulation of the colors is very compact, especially the matte shades. Because of this, the formula isn’t as buttery as I wish it was. The shades are pigmented, but it takes a bit of layering to get the color to show up on your eyes the way it does on the pan, especially for the matte yellow and matte teal shades. I would suggest using an eye primer when wearing these shadows so that they have something to cling to. On the other hand, the shimmer shades are very pigmented and go on smoothly on the eyelids. I’m really into the metallic teal shade; I wore it alone and it made my eyes really pop. Despite the boldness of the colors, I haven’t experienced any fallout with these eye shadows, and they’re pretty longwearing on the eyes.
All in all, I really love The Zulu Palette by Juvia’s Place. It’s a well-thought-out palette, and I’m really excited to create different looks with it! I’ve actually started a new makeup series using some of the colors from this palette, so stay tuned for that! This palette, along with other Juvia’s Place palettes, are available at Your Makeup Store PH. I got mine for Php1339 (+Php50 shipping fee). I was actually really impressed by how fast the order was processed and delivered (I ordered it at 8am and it was delivered to my house at 9pm on the same day).
I’ll definitely be looking into the other palettes and products of Juvia’s Place. It’s nice to know that there are quality brands whose products are inspired by their advocacy.
