REVIEW: Shiseido Self-Refreshing Skin Tint

2021 was truly the year of skin tints. Brands like Fenty Beauty and Huda Beauty launched their own skin tint ranges and others like Laura Mercier and Issy & Co. re-released their popular tints. One that I had my eye on ever since it was released internationally was the Shiseido Self-Refreshing Skin Tint. I’ve added a lot of Shiseido products to my collection in the past year, and their Radiant Lifting Foundation is actually one of my favorite foundations of all time. The skin tint is a welcome addition and in this post, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on it!

The Shiseido Self-Refreshing Skin Tint is a weightless tint that, as its name suggests, is supposed to synchronize with your skin, provide sheer coverage, and balance the skin’s tone—all while letting your natural skin shine through. It’s formulated with 70% skincare ingredients, including hyaluronic acid to help hydrate your skin. Like the Self-Refreshing Foundation, the features Shiseido’s ActiveForce™ technology, which helps the formula resist heat, humidity, oil, and motion (basically life as we know it, LOL). It promises 12-hour wear, 24-hour hydration, and light yet natural coverage. It’s also supposed to be transfer-, shine-, sweat, and humidity-resistant, waterproof, and crease-proof. Not going to lie, that’s a lot of claims for a skin tint! It also comes in a squeezy tube with a thin nozzle. I really like the applicator since you can get it into precise areas on your face.

I got the shade 235 Light Hiba. It’s a great match for me even though my Radiant Lifting Foundation is just a bit lighter. Since it’s a tint, the color is a lot more forgiving and it blends into my skin seamlessly. As for its texture, it’s very light and gel-like. You can really tell it’s made up of hydrating ingredients since that’s exactly how it feels on the skin. It covers minor redness pretty well and does a great job at evening out my skin tone. If you have any dark circles, blemishes, or breakouts, you’ll definitely still need to reach for concealer if you’d like to cover them up. While it has SPF 23, it doesn’t flashback in photos or leave a whitecast.

It has a very natural finish—not matte yet not too dewy. It actually reminds me a lot of the Issy & Co. Active Skin Tint, but with just a bit more coverage. It lasts well on the skin with minimal fading. I wore this out and it holds up pretty well even under a mask. It also plays well with other makeup products, which is great because I love switching up what I use. It also doesn’t get oily or greasy on my skin and it feels very comfortable when worn throughout the day. I can’t really speak on the 12-hour wear and 24-hour hydration claims since I haven’t worn it for that long, but it won’t fade or get cakey even after 8 hours of wear.

Overall, I really enjoy using the Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Skin Tint. If you’re into light coverage bases or the clean skin makeup trend, you should definitely check this tint out. BTW, you can check out the tint in action and my take on the clean skin makeup trend below!
